The Federal Healthy Homes Work Group, a partnership of federal agencies including the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and others, identified a pest-free environment as one of the eight top characteristics for a safe and healthy home. (Other characteristics on the list include: dry, clean, safe, contaminant free, well ventilated, well maintained, and thermally controlled.)
