RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.  – Environmental Science, a business unit of Bayer CropScience announce that Pete Comis and Walt Weinwurm have been promoted to national account manager and key account manager, respectively.

Comis is a 27-year veteran of the pest control industry who began his career at Bayer in 1996.  He served as a field sales representative in the Mid-Atlantic region for both the turf & ornamental (T&O) and professional pest management (PPM) sides of Bayer’s business for several years before focusing his efforts solely on PPM in 2000.  Comis was promoted to eastern regional sales manager in 2003, and then to national sales manager in 2007.  His new position as national account manager will enable him to build upon his success, increasing Bayer’s share within the PPM business on a national level, as he continues to build and develop relationships, pursue partnerships, and drive opportunities within the sales force.  Comis holds a B,S, in Agricultural Sciences from Penn State University.

Weinwurm is entering his 15th year in the crop science industry.  He began his career in the consumer branding group at AgrEvo, a company which later became Aventis and was then purchased by Bayer.  In 1998, Weinwurm switched over to the PPM business as a technical sales specialist in the Southeast region, a role he held for 13 years.  In his new position as key account manager, Weinwurm is primarily responsible for maintaining key customer relationships with pest management professionals (PMPs) and developing programs that will enable the sales force to partner and work more closely with PMPs locally.  He will also execute account analysis in addition to researching and implementing strategic approaches to enhancing Bayer’s customers’ businesses.  Weinwurm holds a B.S. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Georgia.

“On behalf of the entire Environmental Science team, we’re thrilled to announce these promotions,” said Chris Pienaar, director, Professional Pest Management.  “Both are longtime employees of Bayer that have served the company in various capacities throughout their careers, and we look forward to their continued leadership in their new roles.”
