CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Several hotels being used for the Democratic National Convention this week have had reports of bed bugs, the Washington Times reports

State officials and local pest control professionals have said bed bug reports were on the uptick in and around the city, and nine of the hotels being used for the convention have seen reports of the pests, the newspaper said. County health officials say they have taken the proper precautions, but the Times said according to websites such as BedBugReports.com and BedBugRegistry.com, hotels hosting delegates have seen bed bug reports as recently as April.

For instance, the Drury Inn & Suites Northlake, hosting delegates from Ohio, had a report from an anonymous user claiming he or she found "numerous" bed bugs during a stay in April.

However, Charlotte is far from the worst cities as far as bed bugs go, the newspaper said. Orkin's ranking of top bed bug cities from this past March placed Charlotte at #33.
