HONOLULU - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has filed a complaint against Kamaaina Termite and Pest Control, alleging the company failed to follow required label instructions and safety precautions before using a fumigant pesticide to treat three homes and a condominium.

The EPA said Monday the Honolulu-based company failed to turn off gas stove and water heater pilot lights in one home and didn't post required warning signs at two other homes.

The agency alleges the company also didn't remove food from several units while treating the 44-story Keola Lai Condominium in Kakaako.

The Hawaii Department of Agriculture discovered the alleged violations during inspections in 2007, 2008 and 2010.

Kamaaina Termite and Pest Control faces up to $20,100 in fines for the alleged offenses.
