Ensystex was founded in 1994 by pest control operators intent on changing the landscape of the termiticide and termite control industry. To our knowledge, our effort represents the first time that pest control operators have ever started a chemical company intent on developing and marketing a termiticide.
As PCOs ourselves, our collective experience with conventional termite control techniques convinced us some time ago that the days of soil treatment for termite control were and are numbered and that these techniques would begin to be replaced just as soon as viable alternatives were made available.
When baiting for termite control was introduced in 1995, we quickly became convinced that this technology was and is the future of the termite control industry. We concluded that baiting for termite control is the one currently viable approach that has the potential to render traditional liquid treatments obsolete.
Through extensive research, we became familiar with all the classes of the compounds then being considered for use in termite baits. A review of them convinced us that chitin synthesis inhibitors were the best currently available type of active ingredient for use in termite baits. For this reason we chose diflubenzuron, a chitin synthesis inhibitor, as the active ingredient for our termite bait.
A review of the proposed techniques of baiting convinced us that all proposed models of baiting could be improved upon. More than anything else, we felt that current baiting methods disturbed termites too much and were too labor intensive. The result of these conclusions is the Termite Interception and Baiting Method used as part of the Exterra System. This approach to baiting greatly simplifies the baiting process as explained on another page.
In the face of a termiticide industry dominated by a few large chemical companies, we fully understand why it has been difficult for many PCOs to take our small effort seriously, however the registration of our bait product, Labyrinth, should serve as a wakeup call to those that doubted the extent of our commitment or our willingness to devote the necessary resources to bringing this product to market.
More than anything else, the development of Exterra is proof of what devotion to an idea by a small group of individuals working together can accomplish. Now the time has come for the termite control industry to embrace our effort and our product because together we can make a difference. We are of the opinion that for many years the industry has yearned for a time when there would be more vigorous competition among termiticide suppliers for their business. That time is now.
