INDIANAPOLIS - The theme of the 10th Fumigants & Pheromones Conference was Pest Management around the World. The invited speakers covered a wide variety of topics from an international pest management perspective. Speakers from Africa, Europe, South America, and North America covered a wide variety of topics from a global pest management perspective.

Outside of the beautiful facilities in downtown Indianapolis the group visited the Indianapolis 500 Motor Speedway for an evening to remember with special guest Indy 500 champion Arie Luyendyk, and the Speedway Museum which included winning Indy 500 race cars and memorabilia.  A ride around the famous 2.5 mile track offered conference attendees and their spouses a look from the driver’s perspective.

The third day of the conference was the well organized hands-on workshop. This day consisted of nine different hands-on demonstrations ranging from four unique fumigations, a visit to Insects Limited’s laboratory to see how pheromones are produced, new bar-coding, fogging, and new monitoring equipment presentations for small breakout groups. The new F.A.S.T. fumigant scrubber was demonstrated for the first time by Pete Swords. He showed how methyl bromide and Vikane™ can be destroyed after fumigation rather than released into the atmosphere.

David Mueller, conference organizer and president of Insects Limited and FSS stated: “There are rare moments in your life when you feel proud, happy, sad, relieved, and satisfied… at the same time. I experienced them all and more the instant the 10th Fumigants & Pheromones Conference concluded.” If you missed this year’s conference, the 11th Fumigants & Pheromones Conference will be in June 2014 in historic Krakow, Poland, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Mueller concluded: “I hope you get a chance to experience this conference someday. It is fun and educational.” You can find the speakers presentations posted on the website: www.insectslimited.com
