Tony Gustin is hoping to create five 30-minute episodes titled "Tales from the Bug Whisperer."

In 2006, Tony Gustin and Paul Hildenbrand created the 2006 TV pilot “Who Wants to Be an Entomologist?” It went on to receive five international film festival awards - two of which were for Creative Approach. It also got the attention of Discovery Channel, National Geographic and the Letterman Show. Now the duo is looking to get funding in order to turn that pilot into a series; their plan is to create five 30-minute episodes and titling the series “Tales from the Bug Whisperer.”

“The mission of all these videos is ‘action,’” said Gustin, whose family owns Milwaukee-based Unico Spray Products. “We inspire our viewers to watch and then go do.  The world of invertebrates is outdoors not in (at least we hope that is your case). They are filled with practical useful information that can be applied as soon as one hits his or her own backyard.”

The two independent filmmakers made “Who Wants to Be an Entomologist” without a budget, but this time around they wanted to “create our vision in the production value it deserves.” As Gustin explained, “This costs money and five videos is a considerable amount of filming and special effects to apply and this takes a great deal of time in post production.  The technology has also advance far beyond what was available to us at the time we created the first video. When producing a video for kids they know technology better than adults do.  They are so visually stimulated that it’s almost a necessity to deliver it in the highest format possible. Then there is also the challenge of filming outdoors and traveling back and forth from Midwest to Southwest trying to capture insects at their peak appearance time.”
