ZURICH — The 2014 International Conference on Urban Pests (ICUP) is scheduled for July 20-23, 2014 in Zurich, Switzerland. The venue is the University of Zürich, Switzerland.
This non-profit conference is a leading international forum for sharing information and ideas on the impact, biology and control of pests in the urban environment. It is attended by entomologists, pest management professionals, and academic and government scientists from around the world.
The 2014 organizing team, led by Dr Gabi Müller from the Urban Pest Advisory Service, Zürich has been working hard developing, what promises to be, another first-class program for the 2014 conference.
Explains Dr Müller: “The conference programme will address the science and management of a wide variety of pests including hygiene pests such as cockroaches, ants, bed bugs, houseflies. Structural pests such as termites will be covered and no programme would be complete without sessions on vertebrate pests. So rats, mice and pigeons will feature, along with invasive species such as mosquitoes.”
Further topics to be addressed include medical entomology and acarology, the use of natural compounds and physical methods of control. Finally, no event of this standing would be complete without sessions looking at the future direction for urban pest control as well as the affects of the Biocidal Products Directive. In addition to the conference sessions, there will be break-out interactive workshops a well as the ever popular conference dinner.
Delegate registration will start in spring 2013. Details on how to offer a paper for considering by the organising committee will be announced in May 2013. The official language of the conference is English.
The conference website at www.icup2014.ch is now up and running and will be updated as events progress.
This will be the eighth in the series of ICUP conferences. The previous conferences have been held in Cambridge, England (1993), Edinburgh, Scotland (1996) Prague, Czech Republic (1999), Charleston, USA (2002), Singapore (2005) and Budapest, Hungary (2008). Something of a milestone, the last one was held in Ouro Preto, Brazil in 2011.
