PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Responding to the challenge of widespread bed bug infestations, the New Jersey Pest Management Association has scheduled a conference featuring experts on all aspects of the control and elimination of this pest.

“Bed bug infestations were so unknown until about five years ago,” says Leonard Douglen, Executive Director of the New Jersey Pest Management Association, “that the public and the industry was caught off-guard.”

“This pest had been largely eradicated using a variety of pesticides that had been available in the past, but after a number of them were banned from use by both consumers and pest control professionals, it was only a matter of time before these pests returned to pose problems.”

The conference is directed to the needs of executives and technical staff of NJPMA member firms and others concerned with the bed bug problem. It will be held on Wednesday, March 3, at the Radisson Hotel, 21 Kingsbridge Road, Piscataway, NJ.

It will begin at 8:30 a.m. when Dr. Changlu Wang of Rutgers University will be the first of several speakers when he discusses “Bed Bug Weaknesses, Updates and Field Research.”

Among the other speakers is Marty Overline of Aardvark Pest Control who will address the need for “The Complete Inspection”, followed by Jeff White of Bed Bug Central who will discuss “Bed Bug Treatments Using Pesticides.” Later White will also discuss “’Green’ Bed Bug Control.”

Stuart J. Polkowitz, esq. of Brach, Eichler, will discuss “Bed Bug Litigation and Contractual Obligations” and the conference will conclude with an update by Bruce Reinbold of the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.

“Bed bugs are like tiny terrorists,” said Douglen. “Not only do they bite people while they sleep, they destroy their peace of mind just knowing they’re around.”
