COLUMBUS, Ga. — On the morning of May 17 during his route, Orkin’s Jeffrey Dancy saw a house fire blazing but no fire trucks or police cars in sight.

Dancy didn’t want to assume emergency help was on its way (and it wasn’t) so he called 911 and started banging on the door.  He woke up the Roberson family and assisted in getting a mother, father and son safely out of their house.

Fire Marshal Ricky Shores said that if it hadn't been for Dancy, the situation could have turned out very badly, according to an article in The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer.

Dancy, who lives in Phenix City, Ala., helped train firefighters while serving in the Navy before he joined Atlanta-based Orkin. Away from the office Dancy serves as a minister at his local church in Phenix City, GA.  He chalked up this heroic effort up to his “civic duty.”
