An article on www.jconline.com notes that the bug zoo at Purdue’s annual Spring Fest once again proved popular, as attendees waited an hour to pet a tarantula

The article theorized that it might be because the sideshow-like quality of petting a bug appealed to kids - and to some adults. Or it might be because a steady rain this afternoon drove festivalgoers inside for shelter.

Whatever the reason, the line for the insect petting zoo stretched around the corner in Smith Hall, and the wait was nearly an hour, said Linda Mason, a professor of entomology and unofficial greeter to the crowds entering the makeshift zoo.
