Western Exterminator's 'EnviroCare Green' Achieves Green Shield Certification

Western becomes the becoming the fourth provider in California and 26th in the nation to achieve this third-party credential.

| December 3, 2009

ANAHEIM, calif. — Western Exterminator Company has earned Green Shield Certification for its "EnviroCare Green" service, becoming the fourth provider in California and twenty-sixth in the nation to achieve this third-party credential. Customers in California, Nevada and Arizona now have the option of choosing the newly certified EnviroCare Green service, ensuring less toxic pest control.

Western Exterminating was founded in 1921 by Swedish immigrant Carl Strom. What began as a one-man operation working from a shared desk has since transformed into one of the largest family-owned pest control companies in the nation, boasting over 1,000 employees spanning California, Arizona and Nevada. The company has been utilizing an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach for nearly three decades, with the aim of providing IPM programs that revolve around environmentally sensitive principles at a reasonable cost.

The IPM tenet of exclusion has been foundational to the success of Western's "green" approach. The company recently resolved a hospital's phorid fly problem through removal of contaminated soil. A similarly severe carpet beetle situation was swiftly resolved through use of a scope device and removal of an ancient food source. These successes were made possible by Western's commitment to both the principles of IPM as well as a thorough IPM training program undertaken by all technicians prior to servicing green accounts. This winning approach and the company's commitment to technological advances have led a local California county government to choose Western as their only pest control contractor. The county is the first in California to insist on only IPM services for all of their facilities, with two others planning to follow suit.

Western has demonstrated leadership in the field of pest management by providing reduced impact pest management programs to clients, including National Organic Program (NOP) standards and intelligent IPM techniques. Western's "green" approach is effective - through inspection, monitoring and proper identification the company is able to determine the root cause of pest problems and find a solution.
