Jackson, Ga. — B&G Equipment Co., a 62-year-old U.S. manufacturer of application equipment for the professional pest control market, has developed the “Fast Catch,” a new class of IPM rodent station features a new rodent alert function and other unique features.
While the Fast Catch is specially engineered to use most industry standard snap traps, it is also designed to use non-toxic monitoring bait blocks and standard rodenticides. This gives PMPs a new tool for rodent control that is compatible with EPA 2011 regulations, limiting the use of rodenticides in food-handling facilities.
The Fast Catch is offered in two versions: the standard model or one with the patent-pending Rodent Alert feature. With the Rodent Alert feature, PMP’s can see from a standing position whether the trap has been triggered. The Rodent Alert system is entirely mechanical and does not use batteries. “We tested the Rodent Alert feature through 389 snap trap cycles, simulating over a year in the field with no visible signs of wear on the alert mechanism,” says B&G Equipment Co. President Cecil Patterson.
Entry friendly features include a “see through” runway that is specially designed to meet the foraging behavior of Norway and roof rats, according to Dr. William Robinson, technical director at B&G Equipment Co. Once inside, it is difficult for the rat to avoid the snap trap trigger as it is centered in the runway between the two entry points, the company says.
After the rat is caught in the snap trap, the unique shape of the Fast Catch largely hides the dead rodent from public view while the red Rodent Alert button tells the PMP it is time to inspect the station.
The Fast Catch is available at local pest control distributors.
