The WCS Tele-Trap Notifier uses cellular technology for notifying a user that a trap has been tripped, and it can be installed on virtually any trap. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln contributed to the development of the Tele-Trap Notifier.
To activate the Tele-Trap Notifier a user programs the cell phone within the unit to call their cell phone. As with other incoming numbers that users program the incoming number to display whatever they want (e.g., Trap location 1, Customer name, etc.). When an animal has been captured by triggering a trap, within a minute-and-a-half, the unit uses the internal cell phone to place a call to their cell phone. And as a back-up, five minutes later a second call is made, as a reminder if the first call is not acknowledged. After a few minutes of programming the user will have a dependable and rugged device that can be deployed to virtually any type of trap.
Prepaid cell phone service through TracFone is used with the Tele-Trap Notifier. This service requires no monthly recurring charges. Users buy minutes and recharge minutes as needed. When mounting the Tele-Trap Notifier on a cage trap it is secured near the end of the trap so that it will be outside the door once the trap is triggered. This is of particular importance when trapping raccoons, which are likely to reach through the cage and could potentially damage the unit. The durable box that contains the cell phone will prevent this from occurring. The Tele-Trap Notifier is well suited for sensitive accounts, high security facilities (e.g., power plants, prisons, drug companies, etc.), as well as long distance customers.
