Billy Bretherton, owner of Vexcon and star of the reality TV show "Billy the Exterminator," was profiled in a New York Times article "Television's Men of Substance."

Bretherton was one of five TV personalities the article refers to as TV's "Gnarly Five," — five men who have carved out character niches that are every bit as distinctive as anything “Mad Men” or “Blue Bloods” might concoct, just by doing what they do, which is kill insects or refurbish old vending machines or calm down ornery cats.
