Bed bug treatment and training provided to Forest Avenue Family Shelter.

| August 14, 2012

TOPEKA, Kan. - As part of its Bed Bug Boot Camp and Bed Bug Charity Day, the Kansas Pest Control Association sent 16 representatives to provide bed bug services to the Forest Avenue Family Shelter in Kansas City this month.

The members attended a two-day, hands-on course focused on the treating bed bugs, then followed up the training with a third day of implementation of those techniques, KPCA said.

The organization chose the Forest Avenue Family Shelter after the shelter had tried unsuccessfully to treat the shelter for a bed bug issue for months, KPCA said.

"You absolutely do not know how much I have been praying for help with the bed bugs," said Janice Hardin, Director of the Forest Avenue Family Shelter. "Any improvement is worth millions."

The shelter provides services for poor and homeless women in the area.

"We are proud to be a part of this project and are pleased that we can offer our pest management expertise to provide bed bug relief to those in need," said Travis Aggson, of American Pest Management and a KPCA board member. "Bed bug treatments are expensive, the shelter has done all they can to solve this infestation on their own, however bed bug bugs are a challenge. Especially in a home of this size and at this level of infestation."
