Thousands of leaf cutter ants are on lockdown at San Francisco's California Academy of Sciences after they began escaping from their enclosure.
SAN FRANCISCO - Thousands of leaf cutter ants are on lockdown at San Francisco's California Academy of Sciences after they began escaping from their enclosure.
According to an article in the Wall Street Journal , the ants were part of a mock rain forest and over the summer, they began boring tunnels inside a feeding tree.
The ant staff quickly isolated them inside their nest and began upgrading security, including installation of an eight-foot-high stump, which this time was filled with concrete, with a feeding bowl on top.
