JT Eaton Bait Blocks with Peanut Butter have bene approved by the Arizona Department of Agriculture.

| June 27, 2011

TWINSBURG, Ohio — J.T. Eaton & Co. received approval notification from the Arizona Department of Agriculture for the use of J.T. Eaton Bait Blocks with Peanut Butter (#709-PN) for use in the control of packrats.

Packrats (Neotoma spp.) have moved from non-urban areas to urban areas in the Grand Canyon State because of overpopulation. Pest management professionals have had to rely on trapping because there is a lack of labeled products for this pest. J.T. Eaton acted at the request of Arizona leaders in the Agricultural Department to register its Bait Blocks for use in this fight.

“We selected the peanut butter-scented block because of its odor, knowing that these rats have an extremely fine-tuned sense of smell,” says James Rodriguez, territory manager for J.T. Eaton. “Its first-generation active ingredient, Diphacinone, has had a proven effectiveness with other rodents for decades.”

Now that Arizona PMPs are able to bait for packrats, there are a few guidelines to follow:

  • The standard label and the Special Local Need/SLN label (with MSDS) sheets should always be followed, and on hand.
  • Know the environment in which you’re baiting: Are there endangered species, migratory birds, bald eagles or golden eagles in the area? If so, consider trapping or other means before baiting.
  • Ask your customers to help in the process when possible; dead or dying rodents should be removed to prevent secondary poisoning.

J.T. Eaton has a label PDF available online that complies with Risk Mitigation and the Arizona Specific SLN Label. Visit www.jteaton.com for more information.
