Liphatech introduces Generation BlueMax Mini Block rodenticide, a highly durable bait specifically formulated to provide maximum protection against bait crumbling, scatter, melt, and mold in commercial accounts where humid, moist or hot environments are encountered and/or third-party audits are the norm. Built-in durability of BlueMax also minimizes the need to replace bait under extreme climatic conditions.

BlueMax offers a unique combination of attributes that make it suited for commercial rodent control. These include:

• Block strength: Food-grade grains are specifically formulated to ensure block durability and density for less bait crumbs and scatter.

• Weatherability: Optimum paraffin content guards against crumbling and bait melt in humid, moist or hot environments.

• Mold suppression: New preservatives deliver superior protection against mold.

The unique formulation found in BlueMax also incorporates the active ingredient difethialone. Difethialone is a unique compound that requires only half the rate (25 ppm) of other anticoagulant rodenticides, according to the manufacturer. A lower rate of active ingredient makes BlueMax more palatable because it’s less detectable to rodents. Generation BlueMax Mini Blocks are currently available in 15-pound buckets in the United States and Canada. Liphatech plans to introduce additional formulations and package sizes later this year.

Developed by Dow AgroSciences, Halo Electronic Termite Detection is the only monitoring-specific termite detection offering that uses state-of-the-art electronic technology, allowing pest management professionals to quickly monitor a site for termites and accurately detect termite activity in monitoring stations. Halo Detection offers pest management professionals broad operating flexibility because it requires minimal training, can be easily installed and monitored by any technician, salesperson or other employee, and no active ingredient means no regulatory hurdles related to its use, the company says. Halo Detection will be available on a limited basis this fall, with full availability through distributors in January 2006.

Halo monitoring stations are installed around the perimeter of a structure, spaced approximately 10 to 20 feet apart. The pest management professional then monitors the stations, using the Halo hand-held indicator, on a schedule that is convenient for him or her (monthly to quarterly monitoring when termites are active is recommended). There’s no need to open or disturb the Halo stations to monitor for termites. The pest management professional just matches the probes on the Halo hand-held indicator to the top of the Halo monitoring station. If termites have disturbed the station, the Halo hand-held indicator will light up red and make an audible signal, alerting the PCO to termite activity in the station.

Halo Detection enables pest management professionals to offer their current customers a full range of services, bundle termite monitoring with other services, such as general pest control, or upgrade liquid termiticide contracts. In addition, companies can develop new service opportunities, many in untapped markets such as new construction, real estate, lawn care and large properties.

Allen-Oyler, in agreement with Protective Coatings Group, announced the expanded distribution of FortiCel. FortiCel is a proprietary combination of technologies that prohibit mold growth on all interior construction products and surfaces. When applied to the surface of lumber, concrete, sheetrock and steel, FortiCel will provide skeletal protection.

FortiCel is now being used in the PCO market as an add-on service. Using conventional spray equipment, application can be offered without significant set-up costs. FortiCel is effective as a water-based, 0 VOC product, is applied without any additional regulatory or insurance requirements, has a 99.9 percent performance rate and offers guaranteed protection against mold growth for 25 years, the company says.

Bell Laboratories’ new Protecta Sidekick Bait Station provides the security of a tamper-resistant bait station with the economy of a rodent baiter. It is an economical way to upgrade from a non-tamper-resistant to a more durable tamper-resistant bait station, the company says. Sidekick functions as both a bait station and monitoring station. Its vertical bait securing rods hold Bell’s Blox bait securely in the station, reducing the risk of accidental bait exposure to children, pets and non-target animals. As a monitoring station, it holds Trapper T-Rex Rat Snap, Trap which captures rats as they enter the station.

As added security, Sidekick was designed with multiple options for securing the station: a textured base lets technicians glue the station to a patio block or floor with construction adhesive; two pre-drilled holes along the runway wall accommodate a chain, U-bolt or other locking device to anchor the station to a pole, fencepost or pipe; and a depressed circular indent on the floor of the station makes it easy to stake it to the ground.

Sidekick is constructed from an impact-resistant, injection-molded plastic that withstands temperature extremes. It measures 9½ by 8¾ inches with a height of 4½ inches, ideal for fitting into tight baiting locations. Yet, Sidekick can hold up to 2 pounds of bait, making it the perfect replacement to non-tamper-resistant bait stations in the field, the company says.

The first non-repellent insecticide for wall void treatments that controls nuisance pests including ants, beetles and drywood termites is now available from Syngenta Professional Products. Optigard ZT is a new broad-spectrum insecticide that controls 13 pests. Applied to the critical zones of a building, such as window frames, utility penetrations and brick or siding lines, the insecticide provides protection to the complete structure. According to Syngenta, the new product is more effective than repellent insecticides because it allows insects to travel through a treated zone and carry the active ingredient back to the nest, where it can affect additional insects. Optigard ZT benefits pest management professionals through a favorable environmental profile as well as quick and easy application, in a pre-mixed and pre-measured unit dose syringe. The active ingredient, thiamethoxam, controls insects by targeting the nervous system, killing the pest within days. A complement to outdoor perimeter control methods, such as Demand CS with iCAP technology, Optigard ZT is applied as a zone treatment to infested areas using liquid and foam applications. According to Syngenta, zone treatments are a valuable component of low-impact or IPM approaches to pest control; Optigard ZT is expected to be effective for at least three to six months. When used in combination, Demand CS and Optigard ZT provide superior protection from nuisance pests, the manufacturer reports.
