5 Questions with Lisa Eppler

Formulation can play a big role in a pest control product’s efficacy and contribute to a treatment’s completeness. A dry flowable formulation can offer the control customers want in unseen, hard-to-reach places where a spray or bait alone may not penetrate as easily. Lisa Eppler, technical services manager for Syngenta Professional Pest Management, explains how Advion® MicroFlow insect bait can help pest management professionals (PMPs) make a big impact when controlling ants, cockroaches and other pests deep within voids — and out of sight.

1. How does the Advion MicroFlow formulation help ensure thorough control of target pests?

As a dry flowable bait, Advion MicroFlow has varying particle sizes that easily adhere to pests, which transfer it to other nestmates when grooming. Its highly attractive bait matrix helps improve bait consumption and mortality among target pests like ants, cockroaches, pantry pests and more. It also features the same MetaActive™ effect found in other Advion brand products, which activates the active ingredient indoxacarb once ingested by target pests, while leaving non-target organisms unaffected.

2. What makes Advion MicroFlow particularly effective for tough German cockroach cleanouts?

Advion MicroFlow is a must-have tool for reaching German cockroaches hidden in voids in challenging commercial accounts and multi-family homes. Using a dry flowable bait with a gel bait is a powerful combination that can lead to greater success. A German cockroach trial1 showed that Advion MicroFlow, when combined with Advion Trio cockroach gel bait, provided a 95% reduction at the two-month mark. Advion MicroFlow also has long-lasting efficacy, which contributed to prolonged residual activity with a 99% reduction at the three-month mark.

3. Do I need to use a particular application device for Advion MicroFlow?

Advion MicroFlow is packaged in an 8-ounce jar with a measuring scoop sized for many application devices. We’ve found PMPs like being able to “choose their own adventure” in terms of application equipment. They’re applying it with bulb or bellows dusters, hand pump dusters, battery-powered dusters and even paintbrushes (in cracks/crevices, around doors and windows, etc.). The 8-ounce jar also fits securely on an Exacticide Power Duster by Technicide™ for ready-to-use convenience. We’re happy PMPs feel empowered with application options that work best for their business needs.

4. Why is Advion MicroFlow a good fit for proactive services?

A little Advion MicroFlow goes a long way, so it really embodies the “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” proverb. With labeled rates defined as an amount per unit area instead of a specified number of bait placements, it can be applied efficiently and as needed. PMPs are using it to proactively treat cracks, crevices, structural entry points, voids and harborages to get ahead of labeled pests.

5. How does the Syngenta research pipeline help create innovative solutions like Advion MicroFlow?

Syngenta invests more than $1 billion annually in research and development efforts. Most recently, this includes a new Customer Engagement Center at our Vero Beach, Florida, facility, which is now better equipped for product trials, as well as new and upgraded lab space at our Greensboro, North Carolina, facilities, collectively totaling more than 100,000 square feet. Our team members in biology, formulation development and packaging all work together to develop solutions like Advion MicroFlow that PMPs can use today and in the future. 1
