McDermott: ‘A Very Capable Executive’

I met Mike McDermott a few years ago when my partners and I were guests of Aventis at their New Jersey headquarters. (See PCT’s Executive Forum in the March issue.) To say that we were almost instantly relaxed and comfortable in his presence would not be an overstatement. You knew quickly that Mike was a very capable executive who had surrounded himself with very good people that were glad to be on his team. I have not seen Mike since then but still feel like I made a good friend that day. The industry needs as many Mike McDermotts as it can get.

The article "Roaches Take the Bait" by Gordon Morrison et al. was a grim reminder that "roaches have risen again." While gel bait aversion by some populations of German cockroaches must certainly be addressed by our industry, there are still "tried and true" remedies for control that should not be overlooked. We must not forget the proven cockroach techniques practiced before the introduction of gel baits. One such remedy is Whitmire Micro-Gen’s Avert Dry Flowable Cockroach Bait which has been shown in independent university studies to still be effective in controlling bait averse cockroaches. These "old" tools also include the application of crack and crevice residual insecticides which control cockroaches as well as many occasional invaders. Residuals and Avert Dry Flowable Cockroach Bait both continue to perform exceptionally well.
