Although Florida escaped a direct hit from Hurricane Dorian, officials are concerned that heavy rainfall from the storm could create problems.

Kent Donahue, spokesman for the Florida Department of Health in Orange County, said heavy rains being the potential for flooding, and with flooding comes an increased risk of mosquito-borne diseases, The Orlando Sentinel reported.

“Everyone should remain diligent in preventative measures like ‘Drain and Cover,’” Donahue said, urging residents and visitors to protect themselves.

The Florida Department of Health continues to conduct statewide surveillance for mosquito-borne illnesses, including dengue fever, encephalitis, malaria and Zika.

Donahue sent the warnings in emails as an advisory about other pests, including fire ants, mice and rats, which might pop up in unexpected places after the storm.

Ascuitto knew it was impractical to try to hook a hose up to the exhaust on his car, so he researched other ways of doing it. All that problem solving and idea gathering also proved to be the start of a journey to develop the innovative burrowing rodent control systems that thousands of pest management professionals (PMPs) are now using today – BurrowRx.

RALEIGH N.C. — The North Carolina Pest Management Association (NCPMA) announced that Faith Oi of the University of Florida will serve as a speaker for the 2020 Pest Control Technician’s (PCT) School. In addition, the association announced that its hands-on training program will now be offered on-site at the PCT School.
