FAIRFAX, Va. — The Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA), which serves as the consumer marketing and public outreach arm of the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), recognizes National Pest Management Month each April to encourage and educate homeowners and businesses about the essential role of professional pest control. This special designation, observed by the industry for more than 40 years, honors the pest management industry’s vital role in protecting public health and property, as well the nation’s food supply, from pest-related diseases and threats.
“In the midst of a global pandemic, now, more than ever, our industry needs to speak in one strong and unified voice to advocate for the essential services we provide in protecting all that our communities hold dear – from our families to our homes, from the food we eat to the medical facilities playing such a critical role in the fight against Covid-19,” said Cindy Mannes, executive director of PPMA. “There is no doubt that pest control joins other essential industries in the front lines of ensuring our communities have what they need during this global pandemic, and our work as PPMA is currently laser-focused in communicating this critical role at this important time.”
As pest season heats up this National Pest Management Month, the role the industry plays in protecting families, homes and businesses from the dangers and diseases of pests will only intensify. Insects and rodents will not abide by social distancing measures, and home and business owners will need help in controlling infestations. PPMA will focus public outreach efforts this month, using tools such as media relations and social media campaigns, to reinforce the essential role of professional pest control and the value of working with a licensed pest control professional.
“While we are always glad to honor the industry during National Pest Management Month, it’s more important than ever that the industry approaches this honor with sensitivity and respect, given the current pandemic, said Mannes. “We will recognize and reinforce the essential services we provide, but we don’t have any excuse for marketing in a tone deaf manner that doesn’t recognize the severity of the global reality.”
Industry members are encouraged to respectfully devote their social media pages to National Pest Management Month using the hashtag #NPMM in all posts and interactions on social properties this April to join in the special observance .
