A relatively new rodent control trend has been the use of video. For example, some progressive pest management professionals have set up video equipment (in some cases, motion-activated cameras) to record rodent behavior around traps. This footage has provided them with clues for trap placement, bait selection, etc. Jay Jorns, president of JNJ Pest Control, Katy, Texas, sent PCT video footage of a roof rat exploring a trap in a customer’s garage. “I would go to my computer in the morning and log in to see if I had caught a rat and needed to go back and collect the carcass,” Jorns said. “One morning I had one on the trap so I followed the timeline to the point we had interest in the trap. Dropcam gives you active beeps on the timeline. I found a great training tool.” If you have any rodent-related videos you would like to share on PCT Online, email them to bharbison@giemedia.com.
