People Power

For pest management professionals like Dan Baldwin, it’s support from Syngenta experts that takes partnership to the next level.

Effective products are one reason Dan Baldwin partners with Syngenta.

“The products are as good as you can get, and they have a pipeline of new products that are going to be coming out,” says the vice president of technical services at Hawx Services, Ogden, Utah.

But it’s the people at Syngenta he values most. Here’s how they provide support:

For the Business

It starts with not being subject to pushy sales calls, Baldwin says. Instead, his key account managers Jason Venello and Britta Turney focus on the needs of his team.

“They want to know what they can do for us before they ever start talking about some new product or program. There’s a level of engagement that we get that I really appreciate.”

Providing tailored advice and guidance is core to how Syngenta operates. Territory managers help you select the right products for specific pests, manage regulatory compliance, improve operational efficiency and address customer concerns.

“We deliver customized solutions to help pest management professionals (PMPs) stay ahead of the curve and succeed in a competitive industry,” explains Susan Manning, who supports customers in Florida and is one of nine dedicated Professional Pest Management (PPM) territory managers at Syngenta.

Leading Rebate Program

Pest management companies of every size benefit from the PestPartnersSM 365

Program. It lets you save money on the entire portfolio of Syngenta products all year by earning rebates.

Rick Anglian, Syngenta territory manager

Syngenta territory manager Rick Anglian helps PMPs in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and the Florida panhandle evaluate product needs so they can earn the greatest savings.

“We want to make sure we’re helping our customers and that they’re maximizing our program to the fullest,” he says.

Anglian worked as a pest professional for 12 years before joining Syngenta and knows first-hand what PMPs are up against.

“I understand some of their pain points. I can help them with everything from product selection and rotation planning to training with their team and service protocols.”

In the Field

When it comes to solving challenging pest issues, Baldwin leans on the “phenomenal,” yet down-to-earth, Syngenta technical services team.

Dr. Tim Husen, technical services manager for PPM at Syngenta

“They’re incredible professionals with tremendous wealth of knowledge,” he says. “They are thoughtful and helpful, and they treat everybody like people. They don’t walk in saying, ‘I’m doctor-so-and-so, and I’m here to impress you.’ It’s nothing like that. They walk in, and they want to know how they can be helpful.”

Troubleshooting complex pest problems is just one thing the team does. They also conduct research with universities and develop quality assurance best practices and solutions to control specific pests. They even teach you how to effectively use application equipment.

“As the backstop for PMPs, we focus on the pertinent issues our customers face and what our current and future tools can do for them,” explains Dr. Tim Husen, technical services manager for PPM at Syngenta.

Hands-On Training

Hawx branch offices across the country have gained from participating in the Syngenta Application Academy. The program teaches PMPs how to calibrate equipment, mix and dilute product, read labels and effectively apply product.

“While they highlight Syngenta products, the focus is on application techniques. Service professionals don’t feel like they’re sitting through a day-long commercial. It’s a skills event where they learn why you are being asked to do certain things certain ways, whether you’re applying liquids, granules or something else,” says Baldwin. “It’s a special event that carries a lot of impact.”

Susan Manning, Syngenta territory manager

Husen teaches at the academy. In one exercise, he hangs water-sensitive paper inside a shrub where mosquitoes typically rest and then guides service technicians through application best practices to maximize service quality and efficacy.

“Technicians complete the treatments, and then we talk about technique and what we should be doing to maximize the efficacy of our treatment. It makes a difference,” says Husen.

Application Academy events are held for individual customers, through distribution partners or at regional or state pest management association meetings.

“Territory managers help PMPs develop integrated pest management strategies and give insights on emerging pests and resistance management,” says Manning. “Our goal is to equip PMPs with the tools and knowledge needed to solve problems effectively.”

Anglian recently helped a company troubleshoot high callbacks for mosquito control. He showed technicians how to properly mix and apply product using their chosen mist blower. Callbacks dropped dramatically.

“Now they can execute at a higher level and feel confident in what they’re doing in the field,” he says.

On Regulatory Issues

“Syngenta advocates for PMPs with state and federal regulatory agencies. It works with industry groups to support effective pest management solutions and it helps PMPs interpret new requirements and develop compliance strategies,” says Manning.

“Our goal is to empower PMPs with the knowledge and resources they need to navigate regulatory landscapes with confidence.”

That includes collaborating with regulatory officials to simplify product labels, improving comprehension and promoting responsible stewardship.

“We push for labels to be easy to understand,” says Husen. For a cockroach gel bait, Syngenta succeeded in getting “two dime size dots per 10 linear feet” used on the label to explain the application rate instead of grams and cubic feet. “That’s a lot easier to visualize and adhere to,” he says.

You Only Need to Ask

How can you get the most from your relationship with Syngenta? “Never hesitate to reach out,” says Husen. And do it now, before a problem occurs.

“The more that we can understand your business, the better we can align as partners. Our goal is to build that relationship so that we can help you along the way,” says Anglian.

Baldwin says Syngenta is a leader that has helped his business. “Among our valued supplier partners, Syngenta’s technical team has been a standout: steadfast, thoughtful and deeply aligned with our mission.”
