MCHENRY, Ill. — Schopen Pest Solutions, McHenry, Ill., is celebrating its 15th year in business. Pete Schopen Jr., started the company in his basement on Green Street in McHenry in April 2006.
Schopen has grown the company from a one-man operation into a 17-truck service company that services Walworth, Racine and Kenosha counties in Wisconsin, as well as McHenry, Lake, Kane, Cook, DuPage, Kendall, Will, Boone and DeKalb counties in Illinois.
"Nothing makes me happier than helping people who feel like they were in a hopeless situation," said the former sports broadcaster. "Bed bugs, wasps, mice can all add tremendous stress to a family. I worked in pest control to pay my way through college. When I started a family, I decided to give up broadcasting and go back to my roots."
The reason for Schopen Pest's success is its dedication to quarterly residential services, said Wendy Sepsey, general manager.
"We love commercial accounts, but our bread and butter has been residential services," said Sepsey. “We don't get bogged down with landscaping, wildlife or commercial cleaning. We just love providing quality pest control for our residential customers.”
Schopen Pest also helps clients with mosquitoes, ticks and wasps/hornets.
"We want our clients to be able to enjoy their home and their yard,” said Schopen. "We have a great group of employees, and my wife Tami and I can't wait to see what happens in the next 15 years."
Schopen Pest Solutions employs 29 people and has serviced over 19,000 homes during the past 15 years.
