Trail Camera-Proof is in the Video

Timmy Madere, rodent control specialist for the New Orleans Termite, Mosquito and Rodent Control Board shared with PCT the following rodent camera videos.

Video No. 1: Rodent Hunts Cockroach in Commercial Kitchen
Description: Watch as an American cockroach falls from the hood of a fryer to the floor in a commercial kitchen. Instantly, an adult Norway rat runs out, catches the cockroach, and scurries away. The footage confirms what has long been understood but rarely seen: rodents will hunt small invertebrates, especially cockroaches, for food.

Video No. 2: Mouse Chooses Nesting Material Over Food
Description: In this video, an adult female house mouse enters a wall void to forage. Madere placed a cotton ball, a piece of popcorn and a length of mint-waxed dental floss for her to interact with. The mouse ignores the popcorn and cotton ball but takes the floss back to her nest. This is an example of nesting behavior, which typically occurs a few days before the birth of pups. Rodents will often ignore food in favor of soft bedding materials. This behavior has been observed in all three commensal rodent species and in both sexes. For this reason, a nesting bait option should be considered when trapping rodents. The mouse did eventually return for the cotton ball and popcorn.
