‘Get Buggy With It! Bee Creative!’ Contest to Make Donation to Food Pantry for Every Entry Received

J.P. McHale Pest Management’s second-annual contest seeks entries that best “tell the story about how bugs can be our partners in saving the earth.”

BUCHANAN, N.Y. — Aspiring student photographers, artists and writers from Westchester County can help feed the hungry by demonstrating their talent and knowledge about how bugs help humans’ environment.

The second annual Get Buggy With It! Bee Creative! Contest, sponsored by J.P. McHale Pest Management, seeks entries that best “tell the story about how bugs can be our partners in saving the earth.”

The company will donate $5 for each entry received to its new recycling campaign which matches funds raised and donating all proceeds to Buchanan’s Trinity Boscobel United Methodist Church to help senior citizens in need.

“We want to emphasize that insects can often be helpful to us and are not always ‘pests,’” said Jim McHale, president of JP McHale Pest Management. “We are committed to the communities we serve here in Westchester, and want to help educate children and their parents about insects and our environment.”

An important element of the contest is providing information and research. Entrants are encouraged to refer to the company’s Web site and its Pest Library to conduct their research and to gain a comprehensive knowledge about insects.

The contest is open to all students in grades K-8 attending schools in Westchester and Putnam counties. Entries can be submitted in one or more of three categories: Creative Writing, art and photography.

The grand prize winner will receive an iPod. Other prizes will include Gameboys, Webkinz and American Express gift certificates. Winning entries will be posted on www.nopests.com and will appear in the local media.
