'Tales from the Bugwhisperer'

Traveling educator Tony Gustin's work with insects leads to a TV pilot.

After fronting $30,000 of his own money, and help from industry sponsor Truly Nolen,  Tony Gustin is almost finished with a pilot episode of “Tales from the Bugwhisperer.”

An offshoot of the traveling museum and educational presentation, the Creepy Crawly Zoo, Gustin said the series has received interest from the Discovery Channel.

Truly Nolen sponsors Gustin’s traveling zoo, and has also helped with the project.

“The (show) itself is meant to be as humorous as it is informative.  As with the live show if you want them to listen then first you have to make them laugh,” Gustin said. “It is an introduction to what you can do to start studying insects yourself.  Even start your own creepy crawly zoo.”

The video offers spoofs and parodies from such movies as 300, Kung Pao, the Empire Strikes Back, Army of Darkness and Godzilla.

“There's even a little tip of the hat to The Outlaw Josey Wales — my favorite western,” Gustin said.
