VALLEY VIEW, OHIO – The long-awaited 11th edition of the Mallis Handbook of Pest Control, featuring editorial contributions from 26 leading subject matter experts from industry and academia, is now available for pre-order from GIE Media.

Completely revised and updated for the first time in more than a decade, the 1,352-page, hardcover book is the industry’s No. 1 reference source on the behavior, life history and control of hundreds of structural pests.

Editorial highlights of the 11th edition include chapters devoted to Rats & Mice; Cockroaches; Termites; Wood-Decay Fungi; Wood-Boring Beetles; Fleas & Lice; Mites & Ticks; Bed Bugs & Kissing Bugs; Itches, Phobias & Delusions; Carpet Beetles & Clothes Moths; Ants; Stinging Arthropods; Stored Product Pests; Flies, Gnats & Midges; Mosquitoes; Spiders; Vertebrate Pests; Occasional Invaders, Incidental Pests & Overwintering Pests; Insecticides & Safety; Fumigation; Pheromones; Equipment; Legislation, Regulation & Partnerships; and Implementing Structural Pest Management.

First published in 1945, the Mallis Handbook of Pest Control has been an essential educational resource for generations of pest management professionals, with Stoy Hedges serving as editorial director of the past four editions.

“The 11th edition was a labor of love for Stoy,” observed Dan Moreland, who managed the project through thefinal phases of production following Hedges’ untimely passing in the summer of 2023.

Assisting Moreland throughout the editing and review process was Technical Editor Dr. Stan Cope of Rose Pest Solutions, as well as Tom Myers, owner of All-Rite Pest Control, who helped curate the 48-page Color ID section of the book featuring more than 500 images of common and not-so-common structural pests.

Board certified entomologist Douglas Webb of Rentokil Terminix, and Cope, former president of the American Mosquito Control Association, also assisted with final editing of the Mosquito chapter upon the loss of a second member of the editorial team, Gene White, who served as global director of vector management for Rentokil-Initial prior to his passing in 2022.

“Throughout the editing and review process, we did our best to honor the legacy of these two beloved industry figures, who played a significant role in the education and training of thousands of PMPs around the globe,” Moreland said. “My hope is they would be proud of the final product, just as we are so proud of the editorial contributions of the talented team of contributing authors who worked tirelessly to complete the latest edition of the Mallis Handbook.”

Key features of the 11th Edition include:

• Advanced Treatment Protocols

• Pesticide Reference Chart

• Hundreds of “How-To” Photos & Insect Illustrations

• Comprehensive Technical References

• Large Format for Enhanced Readability

“For seasoned professionals and newcomers alike, the Mallis Handbook of Pest Control serves as a trusted guide, setting the standard for excellence in pest management,” observed Dr. Richard Cooper, author of the Bed Bugs & Kissing Bugs chapter.

“Since the first edition in 1945, the Mallis Handbook of Pest Control has served as the industry’s go-to reference for the science and technology principles essential for controlling important pests of homes and businesses,” added world-renowned rodentologist Dr. Bobby Corrigan. “The 11th edition continues this vital tradition with 24 chapters delivering cutting-edge information and on-the-job tips from ants to urban wildlife, authored or edited by top industry experts for each chapter’s subject matter.”

The Insecticides and Safety chapter is a “must-have reference for anyone working in the professional pest management industry,” according to co-authors Dr. Gary Braness, Yosemite Environmental Services, and Dave Braness, DataWave Research. “We collaborated with product manufacturers to capture the many changes since the 10th Edition of the Handbook of Pest Control.” PMPs can “refer to this chapter to better understand insecticide terminology, professional pest products, formulations, insecticide resistance and safety,” they said.
