ORLANDO, Fla. – 4Roots has expanded its farm campus in Orlando, Fla., with the support of Massey Services, which helped install a new irrigation system.
A team of Massey Services volunteers — led by Bill Cohn, director of quality assurance for the company’s GreenUP Landscape Services division — spent a full day on Sept. 16 at 4Roots Farm Campus. They dug trenches, laid piping and completed the installation, all to support a mission that makes a meaningful difference in the community, said Massey Services. The additional planting space is expected to boost yields, increasing the number of meals donated to the Orlando community through the 4Roots’ Meet the Need program from 1.2 million this year to an estimated 1.5 million, said the company.
“At 4Roots, we believe meaningful change happens when the community comes together,” said Ellen Winter, executive director at 4Roots Foundation. “Thanks to Massey Services’ expertise and generosity, we can maximize our growing potential, reduce water waste and provide more fresh, local produce to the Central Florida community.”
4Roots seeks to inspire the community to think more deeply about where food comes from, how it’s grown and why it matters, said Massey Services. Working alongside farmers, businesses and community partners, 4Roots works to build a strong regional food network that promotes responsible farming practices, expands access to fresh and nutritious food and fosters a deeper understanding of the connection between food, health, the environment and local economies, said the company. Through the Meet the Need (MTN) program, 4Roots works with 20 local community partners to distribute food in an effort to enhance food security and community health in underserved areas, specifically within food deserts and vulnerable communities.
