FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. - AAvon Pest Control has earned Green Shield Certification for its "AAvon Team Green" service. It is the first Connecticut-based provider to achieve this third-party credential, the company reports. Customers in Fairfield County, Connecticut and Westchester County, New York now have the option of choosing AAvon's newly certified service.
Established in 1946, AAvon Pest Control is a family owned business that prides itself on its successful Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. Their holistic approach to pest management involves detailed inspections prior to taking further steps to address problems.
AAvon Pest Control is committed to the IPM tenets of pest exclusion and use of least-toxic pesticides only as a last resort. "We look at the current problem and inspect the entire structure and come up with a service plan," said David Curtis, AAvon owner. "We strive to find all new treatment plans that move us to a new level of a successful program while keeping any insecticide applications to a minimum."
Through innovation and detailed inspections, AAvon's approach ensures reduced toxicity in its AAvon Team Green service. Technicians work alongside property owners to address pest-conducive conditions, seal off access points and eliminate infestations at their root. One method of pest management Curtis has found particularly effective is the adoption of insect lights, pheromone lures and traps to entice and remove flying insects.
"Green Shield Certified is focused on the advanced practice of Integrated Pest Management, an approach that solves the cause of the problem, rather than applying short-lived fixes," said Dr. Thomas Green, president of the IPM Institute of North America. "Both home and business owners need a way to identify companies and services that truly provide the highest level of IPM service, and AAvon's Team Green service meets that standard."
Green Shield Certified is an independent, non-profit certification program that promotes practitioners of effective, prevention-based pest control while minimizing the need to use pesticides. Green Shield Certified is operated by the IPM Institute of North America, a non-profit organization recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its expertise and accomplishments in promoting integrated pest management.
