MANISTEE, Mich. — Action Termite & Pest Control, a division of Action WDI Specialist, is celebrating 25 years in business. The full-service pest management provider specializes in residential pest management and canine inspections for termites, carpenter ants and bed bugs.
Action’s founder, Jack Rutherford, began the company in 1986 after learning the trade from Tom Thumb Pest Control. In 1986, following a six-year tour in the U.S. Navy, Jim Rutherford, the oldest of Jack’s five children, joined the company. The elder Rutherford retired in 2000 and Jim and his wife Melanie purchase the company. Since then the company has grown to include a retail center, self storage buildings a dog training facility that specializes in scent detection dogs.
Jim Rutherford attributes the company’s growth and success to the company’s founding principles. “Dad always said the problem with the service industry is the lack of service,” he said. “Show up when you say you will, do what you say you will do, and don’t be afraid to admit when you have made a mistake.”
Today, Action employs seven technicians and two office personnel while servicing 2,500 monthly accounts. For more information about the company visit www.actionwdi.com
