PORTOLA VALLEY, Ca. - Alec Baldwin, the 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live actor known for his Donald Trump impressions, revealed details about his struggle with Lyme disease for 17 years, MSN reports.
Baldwin said he acquired the tick-borne illness after being bitten by two seperate ticks carrying it. He mentioned his illness to the New York Times in 2011, but didn't get into detail until recently. He spoke openly about his experience in California at the LymeAid dinner, an event held by the Bay Area Lyme Foundation to benefit Lyme disease research.
"I got the classic Lyme disease (symptoms) for each successive summer, for five years, every August, like this black lung, flu-like symptoms, sweating to death in my bed," Baldwin said at the dinner.
As PCOs know, Lyme disease is transmitted by deer ticks, and many people do not realize they have been bitten by a tick carrying it until they develop the symptoms. Baldwin said because of his experience with the disease, he and his wife make an effort to keep their children safe from ticks.
"I want my kids to grow up riding horses and bikes and enjoying themselves every day and not have to spend every day with us going over them with a magnifying glass to make sure they don't have any ticks on their body or their dogs, but that is part of the lifestyle of where I live," he said.
