NEW ORLEANS, La. — Twenty-six of the leading mosquito control experts from throughout the United States will visit Alice M. Harte Elementary Charter School in New Orleans on April 9, 2009 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., to provide a mosquito education program to students. These experts are members of the American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA), an international, non-profit association of over 1,700 scientists and mosquito control professionals dedicated to enhancing health and quality of life through the suppression of mosquitoes, other vectors and pests of public health importance. These AMCA representatives will be conducting hands-on science exercises in classrooms and outdoor courtyards throughout the school.
• AMCA representatives will share their knowledge and professional experiences with almost 660 students from K-8th grade.  The entertaining, hand-on science program will discuss mosquito biology and control with emphasis on what the children can do to protect themselves from mosquito bites and diseases such as West Nile Virus.

• Students will also visit “Touch Table” areas located in the school cafeteria where they can learn about insects through hands-on experience. AMCA volunteers will also be available in this area to interact with students one-on-one.
