PICKERING, Ontario — Pickering council passed a motion asking staff to draft a bylaw on pesticide use and bring it back before summer recess.
Pickering is joining the growing list of municipalities banning the cosmetic use of pesticides on public and private property.
In a unanimous vote last night, Pickering council passed a motion asking staff to draft a bylaw on pesticide use and bring it back before summer recess.
The decision followed two hours of discussion and a handful of presentations that included stories of sick dogs and schoolchildren breathing in toxic fumes from freshly sprayed lawns.
To date, 127 municipalities across Canada have passed bylaws restricting pesticide use.
