Aptive Environmental Sues Ohio City Over Door-to-Door Sales Ban

Aptive Environmental is suing the city of Macedonia, claiming an ordinance forbidding door-to-door sales is adversely affecting its business, Cleveland.com reports.

 

In the lawsuit, filed Monday in federal court in Cleveland, Aptive claims the Macedonia ordinance is unconstitutional because it violates the free-speech and due process rights, Cleveland.com reported.

 

The Macedonia ordinance was passed in 2008. The company says that it suffered "significant damages" of hundreds of thousands of dollars because of Macedonia's ban. It says that the company has found that door-to-door sales is the most effective way to sell its product.

 

The company is asking for the law to be struck down as unconstitutional and to be awarded an unnamed amount in damages and attorney's fees. It is also asking a federal judge to block the law from being enforced while the case is pending.
