WASHINGTON — Sterling Barbour, COO of Revolution Pest Solutions, Carson, Calif., was recognized as the third-ever PestVets ‘Veteran of the Year,’ during NPMA Legislative Day, on Monday.

“A Vietnam Veteran himself, he has devoted time, resources, and political capital to helping veterans attain benefits, housing and employment,” said FMC’s Arnold Ramsey, a U.S. Marine, who presented the award to Barbour, a member of the pest control industry for 29 years.

Ramsey noted some of Barbour’s veteran-related work including supporting Los Angeles' “10,000 Strong Initiative,” an effort to promote the hiring of 10,000 veterans in the city (as of Dec 2017 in excess of 10,500 veterans have been hired since the program was launched in 2014).

Barbour is vice president of Veterans Advocacy Group of America, a 501 (c) 3 non- profit organization based in Southern California that provides information and resources for returning veterans and military service members. Examples of this group’s work includes providing more than veterans and their families with 5,000 back packs; 1,200 WNBA tickets to LA Sparks games; and Thanksgiving dinners to 170 veterans and families.

In accepting the award Barbour said, “We need to help our veterans. We need to get involved and give everyone an opportunity because those men and women wrote a blank check for our country and now they deserve the best.”

NPMA’s PestVets committee was created three years ago and its goal is to promote the recruitment of veterans to member companies and supports those recruitment efforts through various education and training opportunities.
