RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – As Opening Day approaches, BASF Professional Pest Control announces a slate of professional baseball partnerships for the 2005 season – all part of the company’s consumer marketing support for its Termidor® termiticide/insecticide product.
The sponsorship efforts are anchored by Major League Baseball partnerships with the Atlanta Braves, Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. In addition, BASF is maintaining key Minor League baseball partnerships with the Richmond Braves, Durham Bulls, and New Orleans Zephyrs.
Both Devil Rays and Diamondbacks sponsorships include Termidor radio spots during each game, in-stadium Termidor signage at Tampa Bay’s Tropicana Field and Arizona’s Bank One Ballpark, and an ad in each team’s game-day programs. In addition, Termidor will be sponsoring the “Termidor Defensive Play of the Game” in-stadium for every home Devil Rays game, as well as during all 162 Devil Rays radio broadcasts on 1250AM WHNZ and 1450AM WSRQ.
BASF and Termidor have also teamed with the Atlanta Braves in sponsoring the “Termidor Defensive Play of the Game,” to be featured each home game on the Braves’ new in-stadium video board – the largest in-stadium video screen in the country. In addition, Termidor signage will be present in-stadium at Atlanta’s Turner Field, on the clock panel adjacent to the video board; a Termidor ad will also be found in the Braves game day program.
“Partnering with Major League Baseball allows us to bring Termidor to larger, higher profile audiences in key termite markets across the U.S.,” comments Karl J. Kisner, Senior Marketing Manager, BASF Professional Pest Control. “Our sponsorships guarantee Termidor’s visibility at 81 home games in each of those markets throughout peak termite season – not to mention over the airwaves through our full-season radio sponsorships. It’s a combination of audience and frequency that has proven extremely effective for Termidor, one that we’re excited to continue and expand.”
BASF will also continue its successful Minor League baseball program for 2005, partnering this season with the Richmond Braves, Durham Bulls, and New Orleans Zephyrs. Specific to each of these Minor League sponsorships will be a Termidor-sponsored in-game fan contest, called “Termite in Your Trousers” at each Bulls, Zephyrs and Richmond Braves home game. In addition, all three Minor League partners will feature Termidor through specific sponsorship nights (along with Termidor-branded giveaways), as well as recognition as a sponsor via an in-game public address announcement; a Termidor radio spot during each game; and an ad in each team’s game day program.
Kisner continues, “With all of our sponsorships – both Major and Minor League – the fan is getting a full-stadium Termidor experience. From signage, to ads in programs and on the radio, to even promotions like the ‘Defensive Play of the Game’ and ‘Termite in Your Trousers,’ our baseball partnerships are designed to provide an intelligent, high frequency Termidor message – a message that’s more than just a product logo or thirty second radio spot.”
BASF and the Durham Bulls have partnered to bring Bulls fans two Termidor-sponsored nights at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, Friday, April 8th and Friday, June 10th. Termidor will also be featured all season through in-stadium signage located in the outfield, as well as radio spots during each Bulls broadcast.
Termidor will be the featured sponsor of the Richmond Braves the evening of May 7th, when the Braves face Durham at their home ballpark, The Diamond. In addition, throughout the season Termidor will be featured in-stadium each home game with an outfield billboard, along with in-stadium mentions over the public address system.
BASF is partnering with the New Orleans Zephyrs on Saturday, April 30th for a Termidor-sponsored night at Zephyr Field. Fans will receive a free Termidor-branded giveaway item, and Termidor will be recognized throughout the evening – as with all Zephyrs home games – over the public address system.
Coupled with most of these sponsorships – both Major and Minor League – will be appearances by Timmy the Termite, BASF’s corporate “spokesbug” for Termidor. “Children and families have always responded so well to Timmy – its only natural that we make him an important component of our baseball sponsorships,” notes Kisner. The 2005 Major League Baseball season opens Sunday, April 3rd. Both the Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Devil Rays kick off their regular season at home on April 4th, while the Atlanta Braves begin their season on the road before returning to Atlanta for their home opener on April 8th. The Durham Bulls and New Orleans Zephyrs both begin regular season play at home on April 7th, while the Richmond Braves begin their season on the road before returning to Richmond for their home opener on April 15th.
