Bayer Introduces Rodent Monitoring System at Hannover Messe

The Professional Pest Management business of Bayer, within the company’s Environmental Science Unit, joined Microsoft at Hannover Messe, the world’s biggest industrial and technology fair, in Germany last week to feature their collaboration on the Bayer Rodent Monitoring System.

“Pest management professionals help us keep our food safe. What we created is a digitally enabled rodent monitoring system,” said Michael Zimmerman, IT Lead of Digital Pest Management at Bayer. “The purpose needs to be to make an impact on society. And, food is such a basic need of society. “

The Bayer Rodent Monitoring System is a wireless network of high-tech sensors added to rodent traps strategically placed around facilities. The high-tech sensors in each trap monitor and broadcast their status through radio signals. These radio signals are then transferred to the cloud via cellular communication. The cloud software sends real-time notifications to users (email, text message) whenever a rodent is caught. This means constant monitoring and more effective mitigation of toxins in our food supply caused by rodents.
