Bayer Launches Temprid SC Insecticide

Bayer Environmental Science has announced the availability of Temprid SC Insecticide, a new general use insecticide.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Bayer Environmental Science has announced the availability of Temprid SC Insecticide, a new general use insecticide.

“We developed Temprid specifically to provide pest management professionals with the efficacy they need to satisfy their customers’ demands and to control ants — the number one economic pest in the United States,” says Eric Lentz, marketing manager for Bayer Environmental Science. “In the past, PMPs have needed multiple products to effectively control ants as well as other perimeter pests. Temprid delivers a dual mode of action that not only provides highly effective ant control but also eliminates the ant’s primary food source, honey dew, which is produced by plant pests like aphids, mealy bugs or scale insects.”

Temprid’s dual mode of action combines two long-standing residual insecticides: Beta-cyfluthrin and imidacloprid. The result is Temprid, which provides quick knockdown and long residual control of more than 50 pests, including ants, spiders, cockroaches and other key perimeter pests. In addition, Temprid offers broad spectrum control and is labeled for indoor and outdoor use.

“Temprid is a new weapon in the fight against ants, perimeter pests—and callbacks,” says Lentz. “We are so confident that Temprid will help PMPs to simplify their business operations that Bayer will guarantee their satisfaction.”

To demonstrate the effectiveness of Temprid, Bayer researchers conducted a variety of field trials for residential perimeter pest control service across the United States. One specific trial was designed to gauge whether using Temprid to control major ant species impacts the frequency of callbacks. “We measured Temprid against the industry’s leading ant control product in more than 2,000 accounts across nine states, and we were thrilled with the results,” says Dr. Byron Reid, product development manager at Bayer. “PMPs who used Temprid on their residential routes found greater than 60 percent less callbacks than those treated with the leading ant control product.”

Another field trial with PMPs specifically compared Temprid’s efficacy in spider control against the leading microencapsulated pyrethroid in more than 600 residential accounts. “Over a 3-month period, there wasn’t a single callback for spider control following one application of Temprid,” remarks Reid. “At the same time, the competitor’s product produced almost 9 percent callbacks, and some accounts had to be treated a third time to satisfy the customer.”

Temprid was registered by the Environmental Protection Agency in September, and will be on local distributor shelves by mid-November. Available as a suspension concentrate, one gallon of the product contains 2 pounds of imidacloprid and 1 pound of beta-cyfluthrin. Temprid SC is available in a 400ml bottle, and is designed for application in and around buildings and structures, as well as on established landscape ornamentals around residential and commercial properties.
