AMARILLO, Texas — Students at the Milan Institute of Cosmetology told ABC 7 that bed bugs infested their salon in Amarillo. They say they are worried about their safety and that of the public that visits the salon.
The students said told ABC 7 they got a text from corporate on Sunday, March 17, stating the building would be fumigated. On Monday, March 18, they were unsure if the problem had been fully taken care of, and decided against going back to class.
As reported by ABC 7, Fred Carini, chief marketing and admissions officer of Milan Institute, issued the following statement explaing how officials are working to resolve the issue.
Milan Institute of Cosmetology Amarillo campus was first notified by an exterminator on 2/3/19 of bed bug evidence in two rooms. Unfortunately, there’s been an increase in bed bug presence in the Amarillo area. Since being notified, we’ve been focused on resolving the matter with the exterminator which takes up to two weeks for treatment to take effect. On 3/14/19 we were again notified of additional evidence of bed bugs in other rooms and this past Sunday additional treatment was administered by the exterminator. We continue to monitor the situation as additional treatments may be necessary.
