University of Illinois Entomology Professor May Berenbaum has hosted the annual Insect Fear Film Festival in hopes of dispelling stereotypes people hold about bugs.
"I can totally relate to people who don't like insects,"she said in a Smithsonian article. "It's probably because they don't know very much about them. This [festival] is an enjoyable, pleasant way to overcome any aversion to insects that arises from, at least, a lack of familiarity people have."
Berenbaum explains where the science goes wrong in these seven films — all featuring arthropod antagonists.
