Patrick F. Callahan, Global Professional Products Sales and Marketing for BioSensory, was there to exchange ideas about NightWatch Bed Bug Monitor and to learn about the struggles facing public health officials and housing authorities as the bed bug epidemic continues to expand. Representing Residex were Tom Algeo and Rick Allen, who were making connections with all the attendees and preparing them for the availability of NightWatch Bed Bug Monitor.
John F. Anderson, Ph.D., presented research about the use of CO2, kairomone lures and heat, all together and separately, in a trap to monitor bed bugs. Anderson also presented the results of some recent efficacy trials with a few leading brand name products to control bed bugs.
Dr. Gale E. Ridge one of the principal organizers of the highly successful information transfer event noted that all interested parties could view the presentations along with photos taken during the sessions. Visit the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station’s Web site, www.CT.GOV/CAES.
Additionally, Anderson has soon to be published research on the monitoring tools in Medical and Veterinary Entomolgy. The abstract can be viewed and the article purchased at www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/121402686/issue.
The Connecticut Bed Bug Forum was such a success that a second activity has been planned to help bring all the stakeholders in Connecticut together again in October, 2009. Seating is limited, so making reservations now would be advisable. The State of Connecticut provided 3.75 Pesticide Recertification credits.
