RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. — Innolytics announced today, March 25, that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has removed the “restricted-use” classification for OvoControl P. The product’s edible pellets, treated with the active ingredient nicarbazin, represents birth control for pigeons.
OvoControl P was originally registered by the EPA in 2008 as a “restricted-use” pesticide due to “the potential for reproductive risk in other birds,” the company reports. This designation limited the sale and use of the product to licensed applicators only.
“We are delighted with the EPA decision to change the use designation for OvoControl P. Interest in the new tool to control pigeons has been extensive,” said Erick Wolf, CEO of Innolytics. “The new classification allows anyone to purchase and apply the product without any special license.”
“There is a need and desire to use the product under many different circumstances and scenarios. The new designation allows direct access to the humane alternative for managing pigeons,” said Dr. Alexander MacDonald, chief science officer for Innolytics.
In addition to exclusion and removal, OvoControl represents another component in an integrated program of pigeon management. In combination with other mitigation measures, OvoControl P results in a more comprehensive and effective, long-term control program, the company reports.
