JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Bug Out Service and Dow AgroSciences announced their support and involvement with a home renovation in Hastings, Fla., just south of Jacksonville, to be featured on the ABC-TV hit program “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

The keys to the new home were turned over to the family on March 9. The show is expected to air in early to mid-April.

Dow AgroSciences is the manufacturer of the Sentricon® Termite Colony Elimination System. Bug Out Service is a Jacksonville-based Authorized Operator of the Sentricon System. Both companies were selected to be involved in the home renovation because of the extensive termite damage that had occurred to the existing home.

According to Mike Tullos, sales and marketing director for Bug Out Service, the Sentricon System was specifically chosen for this construction project because it would allow greater scheduling flexibility during a very time-sensitive project.

“This was a construction project that could not afford the scheduling delays often associated with a liquid chemical termite treatment,” said Tullos. “For that reason, the Northeast Florida Builders Association (NEFBA) specifically chose to use the Sentricon System to protect this property. They knew that this system is proven to eliminate termite colonies, and it does not require the construction crew to leave the site. It goes in after final grade, and the protection isn’t compromised by rains or other construction activity on the site, like what we’ve seen with liquid chemical barrier treatments.”

Bug Out Service was selected to participate in the project by Builders Care, a non-profit construction organization of the NEFBA, which was charged with the task of rebuilding the Hastings home in a seven-day race against time.

“This was a job that required a complete tear down and rebuild because of extensive termite infestation,” said Tullos. “We were brought in as an Authorized Operator of the Sentricon System to provide our assessment of the damage as well as a solution for moving forward. This is an incredible project that hundreds of Northeastern Florida craftsmen have put their hearts and souls into. We want to make sure that a project like this is protected from termites for years to come. We’re proud to be playing a role in offering that protection.”

As part of the project, Dow AgroSciences donated the Sentricon System materials. Bug Out Service donated the installation time along with a multi-year service agreement, during which ongoing monitoring and any necessary treatment for termites will take place.

“We are proud and excited to be playing a role in this worthwhile event,” said John Kalthoff, marketing manager for the Sentricon System. “This is a family that has experienced first-hand the destruction that termites can cause, and we’re happy to be helping them start anew by protecting their new home. We hope that the Sentricon System, along with the ongoing monitoring by Bug Out Service, gives them the peace of mind that comes with knowing their new home will be protected from termites.”

Builders Care is a grassroots organization with hundreds of volunteers dedicated to its mission of providing construction services to low-income, elderly and disabled people. Many of the services provided by Builders Care are emergency repairs that, if left undone, could pose a threat to the health and well-being of families. These repairs often rectify structural problems, water damage, plumbing and heating system failures, faulty electrical systems and extremely dangerous living conditions.

Bug Out Service and Dow AgroSciences have worked with Builders Care for more than four years on a variety of charitable home remodeling projects. Bug Out Service has provided termite inspections and termite control solutions free of charge to multiple Builders Care projects, and has served as the primary pest management resource during that time.
