“We had over 57 participants on the Zoom call for almost 4 hours,” said BedBug Central President Robert DiJoseph DiJoseph said. “It was truly incredible to see that many peers, engaged with one another for that length of time on a Wednesday night!”
The PestWorld event featured six different beer samples with two beer experts to provide tasting information and brewing background information. One of the hosts was Matt Potenski who is the president of the Woodbridge Homebrew Ale and Lager Enthusiast Society (WHALES) in New Jersey. Potenski has also worked as a freelance brewer for several New Jersey breweries.
“I have made beer at six breweries across New Jersey, including brewing my recipes at three breweries (Cypress Brewing, Two Ton Brewing, and Wet Ticket Brewing),” Potenski said. “I have also made a mead recipe at Melovino Meadery in NJ.”
Alongside Potenski was Peter Cronin of Alesmith Brewery out of San Diego. Cronin is the Quality Manager for Alesmith and has been with the brewery for the past five years. He is also a Certified Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) judge that also teaches the Barrel Aging course at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Brewing Certificate Program.
Alesmith’s Speedway Stout was one of the six beers sampled and Cronin offered valuable insight onto the brewing process of the beer and how it was paired up with another one of the featured beers of the night, Omme Gangs Three Philosophers, to create the Philosophy and Velocity beer.
Both Potenski and Cronin offered valuable insights with each beer sampled throughout the night. Besides Alesmith’s Speedway Stout, the following beers were sampled: Almanac’s Love Hazy IPA, Resident’s Perky Blonde, Belching Beaver’s Deftones Phantom Bride, Ommegang’s Three Philosophers and The Lost Abbey’s Tiny Bubbles the Original Brut Ale.
