“Throughout the years, John has been a strong advocate for the industry and for associations,” said Evans, who presented the award.
Gedeon, a second generation PCO, has been involved with the pest control industry since 1963. His father, John, Sr., formed the business in 1949 and also was a recipient of the Tom Evans Award. The General provides residential, commercial and industrial services for customers in northeast Ohio. Also on hand for last night’s award presentation was John’s son, John Gedeon III, who represents the third generation of Gedeons involved with the company.
In addition to the presentation of the Tom Evans Award, GCPCA President Billy Kirchner provided an update on local and state issues. Of special interest to GCPCA members is the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s ongoing effort to develop a standard definition of IPM. Kirchner said groups like the Ohio Pest Control Association are working to have input so that the Department develops an IPM definition that is conducive for business as well as good legislation.
Providing a national perspective was NPMA President Steve Scherzinger, who was last night’s guest speaker. Scherzinger provided an update on NPMA activities and programs, including the groundbreaking of the association’s new headquarters in February.
