QUEPOS, Costa Rica - Employees of the Traverse City, Mich.-based firm Critter Control recently competed in the Offshore World Championship fishing tournament at the Pez Vela Marina in Quepos, Costa Rica. Sixty-eight teams from 30 countries saw 324 anglers catch and release 821 billfish over the four day event, Critter Control said.
Teams were assigned to a different charter boat each day. The Critter Control team consisted of Sam Worden; Kevin Clark, CEO; Sherry White, social media director; and friends Michelle Di Matta and Mike Slocum.
Worden ended up in the No. 4 top angler overall, catching 10 of the Critter Control team's 20 fish. Other highlights included Clark catching a 200-pound blue marlin.
This year’s winners were the Layford Cay tournament winners from the Bahamas, who staged a dramatic come back, with sixteen fish on the final day. Papua New Guinea was second overall, Guatemala was third, followed by the team from Western Australia in fourth.
