In wealthy countries, a disabled person can get a wheelchair, however, there are more than $100 million disabled adults and children worldwide for whom the dream of a wheelchair is worlds beyond their expectations. They live without this basic form of mobility by crawling through life or waiting for a loved one to carry them to fulfill the simplest of needs. Both the disabled and the family members are thereby restricted from a full life. To date the Free Wheelchair Mission has distributed over 170,000 wheelchairs in 60 countries, and Critter Control is pleased to be involved with this effort. TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Critter Control founder and CEO Kevin Clark recently donated 25 wheelchairs to the Free Wheelchair Mission, based in Irvine, Calif. The mission was founded in 1999 when Don Schoendorfer invested his education and professional expertise as a Ph.D. Mechanical Engineer to create a simple, rugged, and inexpensive wheelchair. The idea was to develop the least expensive wheelchair, satisfying the greatest range of needs, and to dispense the wheelchairs at no cost to the physically disabled poor in developing countries on a non-discriminatory basis.
